Kitchen Cabinet Painting Services
Why Preparation Is Everything
Cabinet painting fails for one reason: poor preparation. The original factory lacquer is bonded firmly. A new top coat applied directly over it will not adhere. It lifts at the edges, chips around the handles, and looks worse within months.
The correct process is thorough abrading, a specialist primer matched to the cabinet material, and two or three top coats at the correct thickness.
Spray-Applied Finish
For clients who can have the cabinet doors removed, we offer a spray-applied finish applied off-site in our workshop. This gives the smoothest, most even result, comparable to the original factory finish.
Brush-and-Roller On-Site Finish
For clients who cannot remove cabinet doors, we apply a brush-and-roller finish on site. We use specialist cabinet paints: Farrow & Ball Full Gloss, Little Greene oil-based eggshell, and Zoffany eggshell.
Two-Colour Schemes
A contrasting island or different colour on upper and lower cabinets is one of our most popular briefs. Farrow & Ball Mole’s Breath on lowers with Off-White on uppers is a typical example from Pembury and Southborough homes.

Cabinet Painting Versus Replacement

The Value Proposition
A new kitchen in the Tunbridge Wells premium bracket costs £25,000–£80,000+. A correctly executed repaint costs £1,200–£4,500. The carcass and hardware in a ten-year-old Neptune or bespoke kitchen are often better quality than a new off-the-shelf replacement.
When Repainting Makes Sense
Repainting makes sense when the structure is sound and the colour is the only issue. It does not make sense where carcasses are damaged, hinges are failing, or drawer runners are worn.
Honest Assessment
We assess the kitchen at the quotation stage and advise honestly. If replacement is the better call, we will tell you.

Our Kitchen Cabinet Painting Process
1. Kitchen Assessment
We examine the cabinet material, existing finish, and general condition. We confirm whether spray or on-site finish is appropriate.
2. Written Specification
We confirm the primer system, finish product, colour reference, and application method in writing.
3. Preparation
All surfaces are thoroughly abraded, wiped clean, and allowed to dry. Specialist primer is applied and allowed to cure fully.
4. Top Coats
Two to three finish coats applied at the correct interval. High-wear areas around handles receive additional attention.
5. Rehang and Inspection
Doors are rehung and adjusted for alignment. All surfaces inspected in good light. Touch-ups completed before we leave.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Costs in Tunbridge Wells
Cabinet repainting typically runs between £1,200 and £4,500 depending on kitchen size, scope, and application method.
What Drives the Price
The number of doors and drawer fronts, the application method (spray vs brush-and-roller), and whether a two-colour scheme is required all affect the cost.
Standard Kitchens
A standard 15–25 door kitchen with a single colour and on-site finish: £1,200–£2,500. A larger kitchen with island and larder in two colours: £3,000–£4,500.
Spray-Applied Premium
Spray-applied finish adds £400–£800 to the on-site equivalent for the same scope. The quality difference is visible on a large or particularly fine kitchen.
